June 19th – Shout For Joy

Jun 14, 2022 | Bible Study 2022

But let all who take refuge in you be glad, let them ever sing for joy. Psalm 5:11

Jesus tells us: when you get up in the morning, you get to decide what kind of day you will have. I don’t mean that you can decide you are going to have a completely problem-free day, a Saturday, or even a snow day. I mean that you choose how you will view this day. And there are really only two choices: to complain about everything you don’t like, or to stay close to Me-so you can see things My way. You can choose to see the rain, or the rainbow, you can choose to see a mountain of homework, or the chance to learn something new. You can resent your parents for not letting you go to that movie, or you can be grateful that someone cares enough to say no sometimes. You can choose to see everything that is wrong, or you can choose to see Me.

Jesus Concludes: if you choose Me, I’ll show you how all those wrongs can turn into a day that is just right.

1 Corinthians 10:10; Luke 1:79 Study Notes

Footnotes 1 Corinthians 10:10: Paul warned the Corinthian believers not to grumble. We start to grumble when our attention shifts from what we have to what we don’t have. The people of Israel didn’t seem to notice what God was doing for them, setting them free, making them a nation, giving them a new land, because they were so wrapped up in what God wasn’t doing for them. They could think of nothing but the delicious Egyptian food they had left behind. (Numbers 11:5) Before we judge the Israelites too harshly, we should consider what occupies our attention most of the time. Are we grateful for what God has given us, or are we always thinking about what we would like to have? Don’t allow your unfulfilled desires to cause you to forget God’s gifts of life, family, friends, food, health, and work.

Passage Luke 1:79: To shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.

Footnotes Luke 1:77-79: Zechariah gave a beautiful summary of the life and ministry of Jesus. Realize that you are3 forgiven, you no longer sit in darkness, and you have been given the path to peace. (see Isaiah 9:2 and Malachi 4:2 for more on the light from heaven)

THE WORLD…we see history

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, (January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945), often referred to by his initials FDR, was an American politician who served as the 32nd president of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945. A member of the Democratic Party, he won a record four presidential elections and became a central figure in world events during the first half of the 20th century. Wikipedia.

Franklin D. Roosevelt Sr. (also referred to as “FDR”) was an only child, born January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park, New York. His parents – James Roosevelt and Sara Ann Delano – were both from wealthy, established families. He was a descendant of several different familial backgrounds, including Dutch, English, and French Huguenot. On his father’s side, the family wealth had been built from success in trade and real estate; his mother’s side gained theirs from trade in China, including tea and opium.
World War II, the ease of opium availability resulted in a high prevalence of opium addiction. In the early 20th century, it was estimated that about 27% of its adult males were opium users and by about 1950s about 5% of the population were addicted to opium.

The WORD…we see Jesus, His Story!

Franklin was a descendent from Dutch colonists, who settled in the New York area (same era as Rev Robinson, founder of new world aboard Plymouth’s Mayflower) in the mid-17th century who had intimate relationship with Jesus.

President Franklin Roosevelt said, “We cannot read the history of our rise and development as a Nation without reckoning with the place the Bible has occupied in shaping the advances of the Republic.”
Roosevelt directed the federal government during most of the Great Depression, implementing his New Deal domestic agenda in response to the worst economic crisis in U.S. history. As a dominant leader of his party, he built the New Deal Coalition. Wikipedia.

The Bible is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path; when it burns low, our culture grows dark. The best way to keep America strong is to know her history, to honor her roots, to preserve her legacy, and to cherish the eternal God who, in His providence, placed this continent between two shimmering seas, and who, in His goodness, provided a Book that became her moral and intellectual foundation: the Holy Bible. ***
