And do not complain as some of them did. – 1 Corinthians 10:10

Jesus tells us: when you get up in the morning, you get to decide what kind of day you will have. I don’t mean that you can decide you are going to have a completely problem-free day, a Saturday, or even a snow day. I mean that you choose how you will view this day. And there are really only two choices: to complain about everything you don’t like, or to stay close to Me-so you can see things My way. You can choose to see the rain, or the rainbow, you can choose to see a mountain of homework, or the chance to learn something new. You can resent your parents for not letting you go to that movie, or you can be grateful that someone cares enough to say no sometimes. You can choose to see everything that is wrong, or you can choose to see Me.

Jesus Concludes: if you choose Me, I’ll show you how all those wrongs can turn into a day that is just right.

1 Corinthians 10:10; Luke 1:79 Study Notes

Footnotes 1 Corinthians 10:10: Paul warned the Corinthian believers not to grumble. We start to grumble when our attention shifts from what we have to what we don’t have. The people of Israel didn’t seem to notice what God was doing for them, setting them free, making them a nation, giving them a new land, because they were so wrapped up in what God wasn’t doing for them. They could think of nothing but the delicious Egyptian food they had left behind. (Numbers 11:5) Before we judge the Israelites too harshly, we should consider what occupies our attention most of the time. Are we grateful for what God has given us, or are we always thinking about what we would like to have? Don’t allow your unfulfilled desires to cause you to forget God’s gifts of life, family, friends, food, health, and work.

Passage Luke 1:79: To shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.

Footnotes Luke 1:77-79: Zechariah gave a beautiful summary of the life and ministry of Jesus. Realize that you are3 forgiven, you no longer sit in darkness, and you have been given the path to peace. (see Isaiah 9:2 and Malachi 4:2 for more on the light from heaven)

THE WORLD…we see history

Theodore Roosevelt Jr. (/ˈroʊzəvɛlt/ ROH-zə-velt;[b] October 27, 1858 – January 6, 1919), often referred to as Teddy Roosevelt or his initials T. R., was an American statesman, conservationist, naturalist, historian, and writer, who served as the 26th president of the United States from 1901 until his death, in 1909. He previously served as 33rd governor of New York from 1899 to 1900 and the 25th vice president of the United States from March to September 1901. Source: Wikipedia

The WORD…we see Jesus, His Story!

Vice President Theodore Roosevelt, addressing the Long Island Bible Society just weeks before being thrust into the presidency by the assassination of William McKinley, said, “A very large number of people tend to forget that the teachings of the Bible are so interwoven and entwined with our whole civic and social life that it would be literally—I do not mean figuratively, I mean literally—impossible for us to figure to ourselves what that life would be if these teachings were removed.”

A few decades later, another president bearing the same surname, President Franklin Roosevelt said, “We cannot read the history of our rise and development as a Nation without reckoning with the place the Bible has occupied in shaping the advances of the Republic.” He was an American politician who served as the 32nd president of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945. A member of the Democratic Party, he won a record four presidential elections and became a central figure in world events during the first half of the 20th century. Wikipedia.

The Bible is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path; when it burns low, our culture grows dark. The best way to keep America strong is to know her history, to honor her roots, to preserve her legacy, and to cherish the eternal God who, in His providence, placed this continent between two shimmering seas, and who, in His goodness, provided a Book that became her moral and intellectual foundation: the Holy Bible.
