February 27th – Live This Day

Feb 7, 2022 | Bible Study 2022

Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.—Psalm 73:23

Jesus tells us… Will you do well on your exam? Will your friend still be angry? Will you live up to what your parents expect from you? I know these kinds of things worry you. But your greatest danger is worrying about tomorrow. Just as physically you can only carry so many heavy boxes, spiritually you can only carry so many burdens. Today is the only day you have to live. If you try to carry tomorrow’s worries while you are living today, you will stumble and fall because the load is just too heavy. You must choose to live this day.

Jesus concludes… Give your worries about tomorrow to Me, and I will carry them for you. I will be right beside you, holding your hand.

1 Corinthians 10:13 Study Notes

Footnotes Psalm 73:23-24; Asaph declares his confidence in God’s presence and guidance. From birth to death, God has us continually in his grip. But far more, we have hope in the resurrection. Though our courage and strength may fail, we know that one day we will be raised to life to serve him forever. He is our security, and we must cling to him.

Passage 1 Corinthians 10:13; 13No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Footnotes 1 Corinthians 10:13; In a culture filled with moral depravity and sin-inducing pressures, Paul encouraged the Corinthians about temptation. He said: (1) temptations happen to everyone, so don’t feel you’ve been singled out; (2) others have resisted temptation, and so can you any temptation can be resisted because God will show you a way to resist it. God will help you resist temptation by helping you recognize those people and situations that give you trouble, (b) run from anything you know is wrong, choose to do only what is right, pray for God’s help, and seek friends who love God and can offer help when you are tempted. Running from a tempting situation is your first step on the way to victory (see 2 Timothy 2:22).

THE WORLD…we see history

The Undeniable Influence of The Bible on Culture

For the past fifty years, some in America who disbelieve and despise the Bible have made a concerted effort to remove its influence from our culture. No more Bible reading in school. No more posting of the Ten Commandments in the courtroom. No Scripture references in political debates.

But since (according to President John Adams) this nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. Scripture verses are etched on the stone walls of public buildings that are now historical landmarks. The Bible is quoted frequently in the early documents of our founding fathers and Biblical references permeate the congressional record, judicial decisions and the educational system
If those who seek to eliminate Bible references succeed, “May heaven help us!” But they won’t. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth may pass away but my word will never pass away.”

The WORD…we see Jesus, His Story!

The Bible is so much a part of our culture that it’s impossible to erase it altogether no matter how hard some skeptics may try. For example, have you ever thought about the Biblical language that’s ingrained in our everyday speech such as;

  • “Wolf in sheep’s clothing” (Matt. 7:15)
  • “An eye for an eye” (Lev. 24:19)
  • “The blind leading the blind” (Matt 15:14)
  • “My brother’s keeper” (Gen. 4:9)
  • “Thorn in one’s side” (2 Cor. 12:7-9)
  • “Salt of the earth” (Matt 5:13)
  • “Drop in the bucket” (Isaiah 40:15)
  • “We reap what we sow” (Gal 6;7)
  • “Fly in the ointment” (Eccles 10:1)
  • “Sabbatical” (Lev. 25)…and many others too many to list!
