There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. – John 15:13

Jesus tells us… I am your best Friend, and I am your King. My friendship is practical and down-to-earth. As your Friend, I am always here to listen and to help. Together we will face whatever each day brings: pleasures, hardships, adventures, disappointments. But as your heavenly King, our friendship opens up so many more possibilities. As King, I can create something wonderful out of the ashes of lost dreams, Joy out of sorrow, and Peace out of problems.

Jesus concludes: And it’s all because I love you. My Love for you is so great that I gave up heaven to come to earth as a helpless baby. It is so great that I died on the cross to save your soul. There is no other friend like Me!

John 15:13; John 15:14-15; Isaiah 61:3; 2 Corinthians 6:10 Study Notes

Footnotes John 15:13-15; If we say: “we should love our neighbor because this is the only commandment”, we will achieve nothing because each one understands love in his own way. We need to receive the ability to love selflessly from the source of all love, Christ who asks us to keep his commandments. Thus, we become his friends and we produce the authentic fruits of love.

Passage John 15:14-15; 14You are my friends, if you do what I command you. 15I shall no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know the master’s business; I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have learnt from my Father.

Footnotes John 15:15;  Because Jesus Christ is Lord and Master, he should call us servants; instead, he calls us friends. How comforting and reassuring to be chosen as Christ’s friends! Because he is Lord and Master, we owe him our unqualified obedience, but most of all, Jesus asks us to obey him because we love him.

Passage Isaiah 61:3; “(to give to Zion’s [Jerusalem’s/Jews] mourners), to give them for ashes a garland (festive wreath), for mourning-dress, the oil of gladness (love righteousness and hate wickedness), for despondency (depression of spirit, loss of hope), festal attire; and they will be called ‘terebinths (tree used for tanning material & turpentine) of saving justice’, planted by Yahweh to glorify him.”

Footnotes Isaiah 61:3; The coming of God to His people fills us with happiness; without fear or boredom, so frequently at the heart of religious practices. His Word is power that frees the human spirit from oppression and raises it to the joy of praise. By praising God the human spirit experiences the jubilee (full year festival removal of debt & slavery) of the Lord’s faithful and merciful love and rediscovers the great possibilities of freedom.

Passage 2 Corinthians 6:10; 10“in pain yet always full of joy; poor and yet making many people rich; having nothing, and yet owning everything.”

Footnotes 2 Corinthians 6:10; A distinctive sign of the apostle of Christ is the contrast between the treasure entrusted to him for others, and his own existence hardly enviable and truly unenvied.

If we look for Jesus…we will see His Story!

The Bible is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path; when it burns low, our culture grows dark. The best way to keep America strong is to know her history, to honor her roots, to preserve her legacy, and to cherish the eternal God who, in His providence, placed this continent between two shimmering seas, and who, in His goodness, provided a Book that became her moral and intellectual foundation: the Holy Bible. ***

“In regard to this Great Book,” wrote Abraham Lincoln in a letter dated September 7, 1864, “I have but to say it is the best gift God has given to man. All the good the Savior gave to the world was communicated through this Book.” ***

FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT WAS A DISTANT COUSIN WHO LATER BECOME A NEPHEW-IN-LAW WHEN HE MARRIED TEDDY’S NIECE, ANNA ELEANOR ROOSEVELT.

A few decades later, another president related to President Teddy Roosevelt, President Franklin Roosevelt said, “We cannot read the history of our rise and development as a Nation without reckoning with the place the Bible has occupied in shaping the advances of the Republic.”

Franklin Delano Roosevelt (/ˈroʊzəvəlt/,[1] /-vɛlt/[2] ROH-zə-velt; January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945), often referred to by his initials FDR, was an American politician who served as the 32nd president of the United States from 1933 until his death in 1945. A member of the Democratic Party, he won a record four presidential elections and became a central figure in world events during the first half of the 20th century. Source: Wikipedia.

Franklin D. Roosevelt, Sr. (also referred to as “FDR”) was an only child, born January 30, 1882, in Hyde Park, New York. His parents – James Roosevelt and Sara Ann Delano – were both from wealthy, established families. They were also sixth cousins. He was a descendant of several different familial backgrounds, including Dutch, English, and French Huguenot. On his father’s side, the family wealth had been built from success in trade and real estate; his mother’s side gained theirs from trade in China, including tea and opium. World War II. The ease of opium availability resulted in a high prevalence of opium addiction. In the early 20th century, it was estimated that about 27% of its adult males were opium users and by about 1950s about 5% of the population were addicted to opium

Similar to Theodore, Franklin was raised in privilege and wealth. The two had anything they could wish for, including the best tutors and plenty of leisure time. They both attended Harvard, and they both dropped out of Columbia Law School before finishing: Theodore left early to seek political office, and Franklin left early because he had already passed the New York state bar exam. While Franklin was still at Harvard, in 1901, Theodore became the 26th president.

Franklin and Theodore Roosevelt were both descendants from Dutch colonists, who settled in the New York area (same era as Rev Robinson, founder of new world aboard Plymouth’s Mayflower) in the mid-17th century who had intimate relationship with Jesus. According to this Franklin Roosevelt biography, the two were fifth cousins, having a paternal relative in common (Nicholas Roosevelt, 1658-1742). Although the men were born 24 years apart, they shared two significant ties: Franklin married Theodore’s niece, and they were both served as President of the United States.
