October 17th – You Are Valuable

Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! – Luke 12:24

Jesus tells us… Worry is the result of imagining a future without Me in it. Your best defense against worry is to say in contact with Me, both talking to Me and listening to Me. Sometimes you do have to think about the future. The key is how you think about it. If you only think about the things you must do to plan and be prepared, then you will start to worry. When you must plan ahead, follow these two rules: First, don’t spend very much time thinking about the future. The more you think about it, the easier it is to start worrying. Second, always include Me in your thoughts.

Jesus concludes… Don’t just imagine what you will do, imagine what I will do. You can trust Me to take care of you, today and in the future. Remember how very valuable you are to Me!

Luke 12:22-23, 25-26; Ephesians 3:20-21; Study Notes

Footnotes Luke 12:22-34 Jesus commands us not to worry. But how can we avoid it? Only faith can free us from the anxiety caused by greed and covetousness. Working and planning responsibly is good; dwelling on all the ways our planning could go wrong is bad. Worry is pointless because it can’t fill any of our needs; worry is foolish because the Creator of the universe loves us and knows what we need. He promises to meet all our real needs but not necessarily all our desires.

Passage Luke 12:22-23, Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.

Remainder of Footnotes Luke 12:22-34 Overcoming worry requires: Simple trust in God, your heavenly Father. This trust is expressed by praying to him rather than worrying. Perspective on your problems. This can be gained by developing a strategy for addressing and correcting your problems. A support team to help. Find some believers who will pray for you to find wisdom and strength to deal with your worries.

Passage Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more that all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever.

Footnotes Ephesians 3:20-21 This doxology—prayer of praise to God—ends part one of Ephesians. In the first section, Paul described the timeless role of the church. In part two (chapters 4–6), he will explain how church members should live in order to bring about the unity God wants. As in most of his books, Paul first lays a doctrinal foundation and then makes practical applications of the truths he has presented.

THE EVENT- Read More

After King Henry VIII severed ties with Rome and appointed himself head of the Church of England in 1553, three groups of Protestants emerged: (1) Anglicans who continued the traditions of their church; (2) Puritans who wanted to work within Anglicanism to reform and purify it; and (3) Puritans who were Separatists and dissenters determined to establish their own independent congregations. “Harried out of the land” by various British monarchs. Many of them had fled to Holland, where one Leyden congregation, led by Rev. John Robinson, flourished and tripled in size.1 But these dissenters grew concerned at how easily their children were being assimilated into the Dutch culture. They were strangers in the land. Somehow an idea arose in their hearts to immigrate to the New World, where they could establish a colony to freely pursue their English customs while retaining religious liberty.

Midway through the voyage on September 22, they read the scripture for the day and felt it was placed in the Bible just for them. It was Psalm 107:30 So He guides them to their desired haven. Verses 23–31 say: Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business on great waters, they see the works of the LORD, And His wonders in the deep. For He commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves of the sea. Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, so that its waves are still. Then they are glad because they are quiet, so He guides them to their desired haven. Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
