It is good to wait quietly for the Lord to save. Lamentations 3:26 (Life Application Study Bible)

Jesus Tells Us…Waiting is not an easy thing to do, but there is a lot of it in this world.  You wait for birthday’s to come; you wait for your ride to arrive; you wait in all kinds of lines.  You even sometimes wait with worry for bad thing that never happen.  Waiting on Me is different.  You are waiting for the perfect timing of My plans in your life.  Waiting on Me means trusting Me with every fiber of your being instead of trying to figure it all out yourself.  When you trust Me, when you wait for My timing, I will fill your life with blessings.

Jesus Concludes…I will give you strength and joy and hope.  And I will give you My Presence-while you wait.

Lamentations 3:26; Lamentations 3:24-25; Isaiah 40:31;
Psalm 16:11 Study Notes

Footnotes Lamentations 3:1-66, In Jeremiah’s darkest moment, his hope was strengthened with this assurance:  God had been faithful and would continue to be faithful.  Jeremiah saw both God’s Judgement and God’s steadfast love.  In times of prosperity, Jeremiah had warned the people of God’s judgment.  But in the time of judgment, Jeremiah could still cling to God’s love.

Passage Lamentations 3:24-25, 24I say to myself, “the Lord is my portion therefore I will wait for him.” 25The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him.

Footnotes Lamentations 3:27-33, To “bear the yoke” means to willingly yield to God’s discipline and learn what he wants to teach.  This involves several important factors: (1) silent reflection on what God wants, (2) repentant humility, (3) self-control in the face of adversity, and (4) confident patience, depending on the divine Teacher to bring about loving lessons in our lives.  God has several long-term and short-term lessons for you right now.  Are you doing your homework?

Passage Isaiah 40:31, But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Footnotes Isaiah 40:31, Part of hoping in the Lord, is expecting that his promise of strength will help us to rise above life’s distractions and difficulties.  Do you believe God loves you and wants the best for you?  Can you relax, confident that his purposes are right?  Are you convinced that he has the power to control all of life, and your life as well?  Though your faith may be struggling or weak, hold on tightly to it, and you will begin to experience the strength you need.

Passage Psalm 16:11, You make known to me the path of life, you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Footnotes Psalm 16:8-11, This psalm is often called a Messianic psalm, because it is quoted in the New Testament as referring to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Both Peter and Paul quoted from this psalm when speaking of Christ’s bodily resurrection.

THE WORLD…we see history

Mohandas Gandhi 1869-1948

Gandhi made himself a potent, utterly consistent symbol:
His Hindu faith, his uncluttered life, his vegetarianism, his spinning wheel.

Some of the people blur categories, and it was difficult to decide whether Gandhi, the great Indian leader of the 20th century, belonged among the religious and philosophical, or the political figures.  Our final decision was based upon this conclusion.  Without the spiritual element, there would be no Gandhi.  The institutions that Jesus and Muhammed inspired are called religions, the one that followed the Mahatma’s guidance is called a nation or state, but in this case, that seemed like semantics.  Gandhi was viewed as a transcendent man of deep thought and wisdom, therein lay his power.  His political philosophies were informed by Hindu teachings blended with intelligence gleaned from the works of Henry David Thoreau, Leo Tolstoy, and Jesus Christ.  Shirtless and tranquil at his spinning wheel, Gandhi seemed the embodiment of the philosophies.  He was educated in India and London, and admitted to the bar when still a young man, in 1889.  Returning to India in 1915, he began working for India’s independence from Britain.  While many Indians had sought sovereignty before Gandhi, most had assumed that independence would come only with bloodshed.

The WORD…we see Jesus, His Story!

Gandhi had different ideas.  He ordered an oftentimes extraordinary courageous war of passive resistance and nonviolent disobedience, initiating boycotts and hunger strikes (even “fasts unto death”) to influence, not only the British overlord, but the larger world that was standing in judgment of the conflict.  Over time, his methods worked.  India was given its freedom in 1947.  Gandhi was assassinated the following January.  His message and methods lived on in other movements, for instance, in Martin Luther King Jr.’s crusade for civil rights in the postwar United States.  The honorific ‘Mahatma’ means “great soul,” and it is one that was well earned by Mohandas Gandhi in his lifetime.
