July 2 – I am the Great Artist

Jul 2, 2023 | Bible Study 2023

Lord, every morning you hear my voice.  Every morning, I tell you what I need.  And I wait for your answer. -Psalm 5:3 (Life Application Study Bible)

Jesus Tells Us; Let me show you My way for you today.  Pray about everything-the big things and the little things.  Give your entire day to Me, and then wait to see what I will create with it.  I am the Great Artist, and your day is My empty canvas.  Watch Me do my work; I will paint My colors into your life-colors of My Love, Mercy, Peace, Hope, and Joy.  And you will not be disappointed.

Jesus Concludes; Trust Me to take your ordinary day and create a masterpiece.

Psalm 5:3; Psalm 5:2; Deuteronomy 33:27 Study Notes.

Footnotes Psalm 5:1-3; One way to grow in a close relationship with God is to pray to him earnestly each morning.  In the morning, before our minds become jumbled with problems, we can commit the whole day to God.  Regular communication helps any relationship, and it certainly builds a stronger relationship with God.  So, talk to God regularly and honestly.  Start doing so as soon as you wake up in the morning.  He is interested even in our groaning.  Do you have time to pray and read God’s word each day?

Passage Psalm 5:2; Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.

Footnotes Psalm 4:3; God listens to those who are faithful and devoted to him.  David knew that God would hear him when he called and would answer him.  We, too, can be confident that God listens to our prayers., and answers when we call on him.  Sometimes, we think that God will not hear us because we have fallen short of his high standards for holy living.  But if we have trusted Christ for salvation, God has forgiven us, and he always listens to us.  when you feel as though your prayers are bouncing off the ceiling, remember that as a believer, you have been set apart by God and that he loves you.  He hears and answers you, although his answers may not be what you expect.  Look at your problems in the light of God’s power instead of looking at God in the shadow of your problems.

Passage Deuteronomy 33:27; The eternal god is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.  He will drive out your enemies before you, saying, ‘Destroy them!’

Footnotes Deuteronomy 33:27; Moses’ song declares that God is our refuge, our only true security.  How often we entrust our lives to other things, perhaps money, a career, relationships, a noble cause, or a lifelong dream.  But our only true refuge is the eternal God, who always holds out his arms to catch us when the shaky supports that we trust collapse and we fall.  No storm can destroy us, when we take refuge in him.  Those without God, however, must forever be cautious.  One mistake may wipe them out.  Living for God in this world may look like risky business.  But it is the godless who are on shaky ground.  When God is our refuge, we are on firm ground, so we can dare to be bold.

THE WORLD…we see history

MIKHAIL GORBACHEV AND LECH WALESA

Mikhail Gorbachev:

On June 12, 1987, during a speech in Berlin, U.S. President Ronald Reagan, addressed the general secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.  “Mr. Gorbachev,” he implored, “tear down this wall!”  few if any assumed action would follow, but beginning in late 1989, the barrier dividing the city of Berlin was dismantled, and two years later, the Soviet Union itself broke apart.  World leaders such as Reagan, Britain’s Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Pope John Paul II and insurrectionists like Lech Walesa of Poland helped pave the way, but it was principally the work of the unexpectedly progressive Mikhail Gorbachev.  The son of peasants, Gorbachev joined the Communist party after college and his star rose throughout the 70’s.  by the decade’s end, he was a member of the Politburo, and after a trio of general secretaries died in quick succession, Gorbachev was elected to the top job in 1985.  He launched perestroika, which encouraged creativity, and glasnost, allowing certain liberties.  Crucially, he said the Eastern bloc nations could choose their own paths free of Soviet influence.  Soon the USSR collapsed.

Mikhail Gorbachev:

In 1990, Gorbachev was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.  Richard M. Nixon, a man who understood the pressures of high office, put it succinctly when he suggested Gorbachev as Man of the Century; “He has decided that he would risk his power in order to save his reforms, rather than risk his reforms to save his power.

Lech Walesa:

Sometimes, all that is needed is a spark.  And sometimes, a spark takes human form.  Lech Walesa, the son of a poor Polish carpenter, was such a man.  After attending vocational school, Walesa took a job at the Lenin Shipyard in 1967.  Appalled by the treatment of workers, the young technician joined the labor protests of the era.  By August 1980, he was unemployed, but still in Gdansk, and climbed a wall at the shipyard to join a strike. After being chosen to lead the group, Walesa pushed for an unthinkable goal: free trade unions. Government authorities acceded and Solidarity, with 10 million members overnight was born.  Threatened, the government declared martial law and Walesa was jailed, albeit temporarily.  After his release, Walesa resumed control of Solidarity, and in 1983 won the Nobel Peace Prize.  Most remarkably, after a second occupation of the Lenin Shipyard, the Polish government agreed to semi-free elections.  Communism crumbled in Poland, then throughout the Eastern Bloc, and finally the USSR came tumbling down.
