December 5th – A Prayer I love to Answer

Dec 5, 2021 | Bible Study 2021

When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it” – Genesis 28:16

Jesus tells us… When Jacob ran away from his angry brother, Esau, he went to sleep on a stone pillow in a land that seemed empty and gloomy. But he dreamed about heaven and angels and promises of My Presence. And when he awoke, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” Jacob’s discovery was not only for himself, but for everyone who seeks Me

Jesus concludes… I am everywhere. I am above you, below you, and all around you. There is no place that I am not, so if you find yourself feeling distant from Me, say: “Surely the Lord is in this place!” Then ask Me to open the eyes of your heart so that you can “see” My Presence. This is a prayer I love to answer!

Genesis 28:16; Psalm 31:20; Genesis 28:11-15

Footnotes 28:20-22 Was Jacob trying to bargain with God? It is possible that he, in his ignorance of how to worship and serve God, treated God like a servant who would perform a service for a tip. More likely, Jacob was not bargaining, but pledging his future to God. He may have been saying, in effect, “Because you have blessed me, I will follow you.” Whether Jacob was bargaining or pledging, God blessed him. But God also had some difficult lessons for Jacob to learn.

Passage Psalm 31:20. In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues.

Passage Genesis 28:11-15;  When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep.  He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.  There above it a stood the LORD, and he said: “I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.  Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.  I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

Footnotes 28:10-15 God’s covenant promise to Abraham and Isaac was offered to Jacob as well. But it was not enough to be Abraham’s grandson; Jacob had to establish his own personal relationship with God. God has no grandchildren; each person must have a personal relationship with him. It is not enough to hear wonderful stories about Christians in your family. You need to become part of the story yourself.

If we look for Jesus…we will see His Story!

THe BIBLE IS A LAMP TO OUR FEET AND A LIGHT TO OUR PATH

THE EVENT- It is the Bible that made America. READ MORE

Not every Founding Father was a Christian, a Bible-believer, or a paragon of virtue. Not every president has honored the Bible. Not every leader has appreciated its influence. Some of the Founding Fathers—Thomas Jefferson, Ethan Allen, Thomas Paine—were disciples of Enlightenment rationalism. But even they were intimately acquainted with the contents of the Bible. They vigorously studied Scripture and respected its ethical teachings.

I am not commending all those whose stories I tell in these pages, but I am commending the book they held in their hands. Trying to explain American history without its Bible is like trying to understand the human body without its bloodstream. Had there been no Bible, there would be no America as we know it. The nation would not have been born as it was.

  • John Adams was an American statesman, attorney, diplomat, writer, and Founding Father who served as the second president of the United States from 1797 to 1801.

John Adams wrote, “The Bible contains the most profound philosophy, the most perfect morality, and the most refined policy that was ever conceived on earth. . . . I believe [it] to be the only system that ever did or ever will preserve a republic in the world.” Before his presidency, he was a leader of the American Revolution that achieved independence from Great Britain, and he served as the first vice president of the United States.
